Testing threads used in footwear production

Examining how stitching thread – a key element in the manufacturing process – is assessed.

Threads perform both functional and decorative tasks in footwear. They are used to form seams which hold various upper components together and, in some constructions, to fix the sole to the upper. Whatever their end use, threads must be able to withstand the rigours of both shoemaking and wear.
