SAFT course to be held in Vietnam

SATRA will be presenting modules from its renowned footwear technologist course in Vietnam for the first time in July 2023.

The SATRA Accredited Footwear Technologist (SAFT) award is an internationally recognised qualification, and is clear evidence that the holder is a footwear technologist with a proven range of knowledge. The full course comprises seven key areas of footwear manufacture, each module is an intensive training led by a SATRA specialist, and includes comprehensive documentation and up-to-date information.

In a global and competitive marketplace, knowledge and skills are increasingly important. SATRA has designed this member-only training course for all technologists involved in any aspect of footwear production.

SAFT presentation in Vietnam

SATRA will be delivering two modules from the SAFT course, in addition to a new bolt-on module, in Vietnam from 4th to 7th July 2023. This is the first time that SAFT modules will have been delivered in Vietnam. SATRA UK staff will deliver the popular Module 2 on 4th and 5th July 2023 and Module 3 on 6th and 7th July 2023. Each module will be two days in length and can be treated as standalone training or could be added to later in order to achieve full SAFT accreditation.

The bolt-on module – to be presented on 6th July 2023 – has been designed for laboratory managers. This one-day course is new for 2023 and is being delivered in Vietnam for the first time.

Module 8: Laboratory manager’s course

Module 8 considers the effective management of a physical testing laboratory and begins with the importance of creating and following a quality system in order to ensure accurate test results. Within this module, delegates will build a management system for a fictional laboratory.

The following key areas will be reviewed during the day, with explanation of why these areas are critical to the reliability of results: i) test method selection and control, ii) equipment selection, maintenance and management, iii) training of laboratory staff, iv) what calibration is and how to ensure that machines are suitable for use, v) standard materials – how to select and control materials and consumables, vi) the laboratory environment – temperature, humidity, laboratory layout and general housekeeping, vii) work initiation and progress – traceability, raw data, viii) reporting of test results and storage of data and samples, ix) complaints – the importance of recording the details and acting upon complaints.

Once the course is complete, students can take optional written examinations, and SAFT accreditation is achieved on passing five of the seven modules. The core modules 1, 2 and 4 must be completed, with an additional two modules chosen from the list to meet the individual delegate’s requirements.
