SATRA announces new webinar topics

Registrations are being taken for SATRA’s live online presentations for members on footwear-related issues.

SATRA’s programme of regular webinars presented on a variety of key industry topics is proving very popular with members around the world. Hundreds of online attendees have taken advantage of this provision, all of whom have the opportunity to pose questions before the event, during the presentation or afterwards. Answers can then be provided either as a live response at the conclusion of the session (when it is presented live) or as personalised emailed advice, which is a particularly valuable service whenever confidential information about the member’s products needs to be discussed.

Thursday 13th July 2023 – ‘Assessing footwear backparts’. Backparts of high-heeled footwear are safety-critical constructions and must be designed to provide the necessary strength and support, as well as to avoid failures in wear. A faulty backpart may lead to customer dissatisfaction or, more seriously, a costly claim for damages if failure of the footwear results in an injury. This presentation will explain how footwear backparts may be tested within the laboratory. The webinar will begin at 10:00 BST and will be repeated at 16:00  for delegates who are located in North and South America.

Thursday 20th July 2023 – ‘Slender heels – impact versus fatigue’. Shoes which incorporate slender high heels have been a fashion staple in many parts of the world for a considerable number of years. Stem breakage – which is a major problem with this type of footwear – is a very important issue, since it is a safety-related fault with as much potential to injure as if the whole heel had detached from the shoe. This webinar, which is reserved for SATRA members, will examine the two main tests that are used to assess the strength of slender heels – ‘impact resistance’ (SATRA TM20) and ‘fatigue resistance’ (SATRA TM21). As with the previously-mentioned webinar, this event will be held at 10:00 BST and repeated at 16:00 BST.

Online library of video presentations

In addition to the regular live events, SATRA has built an online library of recordings of the webinars as well as supplementary video presentations on many key footwear-related issues, access to which is reserved for member companies. This online provision ensures that all members who were unable to watch the live online events can still benefit from the experience of SATRA’s experts and other industry figures by logging onto the dedicated website section at www.satra.com/resources whenever they choose.
