Dr Martens to launch UK shoe repair service
The iconic British brand aims to boost its sustainability credentials .
British footwear producer Dr Martens has announced a pilot shoe repair service in the UK, with the intention of expanding this to continental Europe at a later date. As a part of the programme, the shoemaker is working in conjunction with The Boot Repair Company, based in the northern English city of Leeds. According to Dr Martens’ chief executive, Kenny Wilson, the aim of the new scheme is to encourage customers to extend the lifespan of their footwear, and so improve the company’s sustainability credentials.
Explaining the company’s expectations for this new service, Mr Wilson stated: “Could it potentially lose us some business short term? Yes, but we think about it long-term, therefore we think it will breed customer loyalty, and it’s the right thing to do.”
