Evaluating the slip resistance of heel top-pieces
Examining top-pieces for men’s and women’s footwear, and explaining how these items are assessed for slip resistance.
Top-pieces (top-lifts) are the wearing surface of the heel, where this is a separate component and not part of a unit sole moulding or direct moulded-on. One of the key fitness for purpose tests is slip resistance, and SATRA TM144:2021 – 'Friction (slip resistance) of footwear and flooring' and ASTM F2913-19 are the most appropriate methods for assessing this property.
