SATRA to launch new SAFT sports footwear module

The new SAFT sports footwear module will include a consideration of industry trends, materials and whole shoe innovations.

In 2024, SATRA will introduce a new SATRA Accredited Footwear Technician (SAFT) module covering the topic of sports footwear. This will be the ninth module in the course and will be included in future SAFT training programmes delivered in the US and the UK.

Day one of the two-day training module will present an overview of the sports footwear industry in addition to a categorisation of sports footwear types, universal properties and design features. This session will include information about trends within the industry, materials and whole shoe innovations, and will include a brief history of the development of sports footwear and notable designs of recent years.

Day two of the module will focus in detail on the footwear used in five specific sports, and consider how the nature and demands of individual activities define the types of footwear required and the designs, components and properties they must possess. The new sports footwear module will conclude with an exercise which allows delegates to take an analytical approach to thinking about other types of sports footwear, including everyday and athleisure sneakers.
