Footwear congress calls for greater cooperation

The seventh World Footwear Congress was recently held in Istanbul, Turkey, and concluded with calls for greater international cooperation in order to reshape the industry’s future. More than 300 participants from five continents gathered to discuss what were described as the sector’s challenges and opportunities at a crucial time.

Alongside other issues being debated, delegates agreed that sustainability should be defined ‘beyond the environmental dimension’ and be communicated more clearly. They also discussed the future of the workforce, including the possibility of a more flexible and community-driven strategy to engage and retain younger employees.
