SATRA Basic shoemaking step-by-step course
SATRA’s long-running and popular basic shoemaking course is now taking bookings for the March 2024 sessions.
The two-day Basic shoemaking step-by-step course is reserved for SATRA members and will be held on Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th March 2024. Providing an introduction to the shoemaking process, it is especially suited to members of staff who are new to the industry and want a broad grounding in the topic. Marketers, buyers, designers, material suppliers and personnel in many other teams would benefit from attending. It is an excellent opportunity to meet SATRA experts face-to-face and to handle materials as part of the learning experience.
What will be discussed?
This classroom-based course will begin with a consideration of basic shoemaking terminology and different footwear styles. The various processes used to put footwear together will then be explained, with particular focus placed on the production stages found in the ‘stitching’ and ‘making’ rooms.
A review of the key materials which are used to make footwear will be included, with delegates on the course learning about upper materials (leathers, synthetics and textiles), sole materials and components such as insoles, toe puffs (box toes) and stiffeners (counters).
The second day
Day two will start by discussing the different ways of attaching soles, and ancillary operations such as shoe room finishing and inspection. Afterwards, factors that affect the customer will be examined, including fit, comfort and consumer complaints. An overview of quality control tests will also be presented, after which delegates can take a tour of the SATRA laboratories.
The March 2024 sessions of SATRA’s Basic shoemaking step-by-step course will be held in Kettering, UK. The cost for members is GBP 820 (plus VAT where applicable). Please visit www.satra.com/events or email training@satra.com for further information or to reserve your place(s) on this event. This course will also be held in Kettering on July 24th to 25th and December 4th to 5th 2024.
