Danish footwear company ECCO is continuing to transform its business in the US by opening its first store in Manhattan, New York. The store is said to offer ECCO’s complete footwear and accessory range, in addition to a number of ‘special edition’ items that will only be available from this flagship establishment.
Although ECCO has been doing business in the US for more than three decades, this is the first time the company has had a store in New York City. According to ECCO chief executive, Panos Mytaros, the company is well-established in the US market through wholesale and direct channels, but now needs to modernise the brand to attract more consumers in.
Described as a ‘milestone moment for ECCO’, the store was designed in collaboration with Swedish studio Stamuli. It features the use of Danish Jutland bricks for displays, large leather cushions to emphasise the company’s tanneries, and aluminium, which is an important material in ECCO’s manufacturing processes.
