Structural component and performance thread specialist Coats Footwear recently showcased a range of new material solutions for footwear and luxury accessory manufacturers at the Lineapelle exhibition in Milan.
At the show, the company introduced a line of cellulose materials called ‘4orest’. This is reportedly made with an average of 45 to 55 per cent of recycled content and having a biodegradability of more than 80 to 85 per cent.
According to the Coats Footwear team, 4orest is suitable for use in various applications, including as insoles in women’s shoes. The product is being marketed as made from premium FSC-certified virgin fibres and is said to have been engineered to maintain dimensional stability – achieving more than 300 Kpa in the taped Mullen test for delamination, compared to virgin products that have a comparable 2 mm gauge.
Another new Coats Footwear product shown at Lineapelle was ‘Cyclea’ – a reinforcement material that uses scrap leather from manufacturing processes. With up to 100 per cent of its recycled content achievable using leather remaining from footwear production and by recycling polymers, Cyclea was designed as a ‘circular loop’ technology in order to help brand owners hit their zero waste targets.
