Dr Martens continues sustainability drive
US customers in Los Angeles and Portland can exchange used Dr Martens footwear for a discount against a future purchase.
Dr Martens has launched an online resale platform for the US market. Called ‘ReWair’, it offers pre-owned Dr Martens boots and handbags which are said to have been carefully examined, repaired and restored by technicians. A trade-in programme has also been introduced at the company’s retail locations in Los Angeles and Portland. Under this scheme, customers can exchange ‘pre-loved’ Dr Martens goods for a USD 20 discount voucher that they can use towards the cost of a new pair of boots. For owners who currently do not live near one of the participating stores, the company website advises “stay tuned, there’s more to come.”
Continuing to drive Dr Martens’ sustainability goals, the company recently released its ‘Genix Nappa’ product range, which reportedly features a new material which has been created in partnership with UK-based sustainability and waste regeneration specialist GenPhoenix. Genix Nappa is made from fibres that are derived from reclaimed leather offcuts that would have traditionally been destined for landfill. The new material is marketed as containing a minimum of 50 per cent of leather waste, and is manufactured by a process that separates the leather fibres before re-entangling them to create a re-engineered roll.
