Skechers opens first store in Brussels
Skechers first concept store in Brussels is reportedly part of the company’s commitment to building the brand in Belgium.
US footwear producer Skechers has opened its first concept store in Brussels, Belgium. This new facility, along with the company’s existing store in Antwerp, a newly-opened outlet in Kortrijk and an additional concept store planned for the city of Bruges, is said to represent its commitment to building the brand across the country.
According to Maurice van Berkel, general manager of Skechers USA Benelux BV, the company’s presence in the Benelux region (consisting of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg) has been growing for more than two decades.
“Belgium has played a key role in Skechers’ business,” added the company’s chief operating officer, David Weinberg. “Wallonia (in southern Belgium) is home to our European Distribution Centre – the region’s largest – from where we serve consumers throughout Europe and beyond.”
With a footprint of nearly 5,300 square feet (492 square metres), the new store features a vaulted entry area, a large mural of Skechers’ home town of Manhattan Beach in Southern California, a digital screen and illuminated displays.
As a further indication of its global expansion plans, a 21st Skechers store has opened in the Indian state of Gujarat. Trade in the country is conducted by the company’s South Asia subsidiary, which was founded in 1992. Skechers products are now available in 180 countries and territories through department and speciality outlets, as well as direct to consumers by means of digital shopping and approximately 5,200 physical stores which are either operated by Skechers or third-party operators.
