Birkenstock opens first Parisian store
The opening of the Paris store is reported to be an important step in the implementation of the company’s European retail strategy.
German footwear manufacturer Birkenstock has opened its first standalone store in France – located in Paris, close to the Centre Pompidou and the City Hall. According to Birkenstock, Paris was chosen as it is one of the world’s defining fashion and cultural capitals, and the trendy Marais district – with its boutiques, galleries and restaurants – is said to fit perfectly with the brand’s DNA.
The decoration of the store relies heavily on a historical context. The plaster on the walls is a reminder of the ancient quarries in Paris, where gypsum was extracted for the production of plaster, and leather and cork – two key materials in the original Birkenstock footbed – are also prominently used.
The new Paris store is reported to be an important step in the implementation of Birkenstock’s European strategy. It now plans to open more dedicated stores in various European cities.
Nico Bouyakhf, president and managing director of Birkenstock Europe operation commented: “There are many important European cities where we are not yet represented. That is why we are excited to continue our retail expansion in a city as iconic as Paris and a district as famous as the Marais.”
