Leather Naturally – described as an industry association that focuses on education and the promotion of leather – recently welcomed British luxury car maker Bentley as its first automotive member. As an international non-governmental organisation, Leather Naturally is dedicated to promoting the use of certified, responsibly-sourced leather as the natural by-product of a responsible circular economy.

Bentley was the first car maker to introduce a fully organic leather option in 2021 and join the Leather Working Group, which promotes conscientious business practices and environmental compliance within the leather industry. The new partnership with Leather Naturally is said to be the latest environmental initiative by Crewe-based Bentley, which aims to underscore the brand’s ongoing commitment to become the global leader in sustainable luxury mobility through its ‘Beyond100 strategy’. This programme centres around ensuring sustainable luxury for the next century while aligning with a low-carbon future.

The vehicle manufacturer has also introduced its first sustainable leather option for customers, which utilises a sustainable leather tanning process involving an organic by-product of the olive oil industry. Called ‘olive mill wastewater tanned leather’, this is reportedly produced with agents free of harmful heavy metals, minerals and aldehydes.

Marc Stang, a technical expert in leather and colour development at Bentley Motors, commented: “Leather is a timeless, luxury material that has always epitomised the elegance, durability and quality of a hand-crafted Bentley interior. It has a rich history that dates back decades in our cars and has always stood the test of time.”
