Coats Group appoints new CEO

David Paja brings experience in engineering and manufacturing to his new role.

London-based Coats Group has announced the appointment of David Paja to the position of chief executive, in which he takes over the role from Rajiv Sharma. Mr Paja joined the thread and structural components producer as an executive board director on September 1st before becoming chief executive one month later. Mr Sharma will continue to assist and advise his successor and the board until the end of this year.

Born in Spain, Mr Paja brings to his new job more than three decades of leadership experience which he gained in the automotive, aerospace and defence, and the fire and security industries. He also has expertise in managing global operations across three continents.

With a background in engineering and manufacturing, Mr Paja was most recently chief executive of GKN Aerospace (part of Melrose Industries), where he played a key function in the successful turnaround of the business and delivery of profitable growth. Prior to this, he held senior leadership positions at Aptiv, Honeywell and Valeo. Mr Paja gained an engineering degree from the University of Valladolid, in addition to an MBA from INSEAD.
