US-based footwear and apparel producer Skechers has announced the planned relocation of its European distribution centre operations to a 200,000 square metre single-structure, state-of-the-art facility located in the Belgian city of Liège. The company says that this new resource will be used to strategically expand its business throughout the continent.

According to Paul Galliher, senior vice president of global distribution for Skechers, the new facility will allow the company to increase the volume of goods shipped to meet the expected demand for its products in the coming decade, while substantially improving efficiency, adding that this will ‘launch a new era for Skechers’.

In 2028, Skechers will begin a gradual move to the new site, which will be located close to Liège Airport and major roads, 12 km from the company’s current location. The building is reportedly being designed to gain an ‘excellent’ rating under the ‘Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method’ (BREEAM) which measures the sustainability of buildings, and is to include a number of renewable energy features. Skechers is anticipating the need for additional employees at the facility with the planned expansion of its business and logistic capabilities.
