Plans revealed for new Indian footwear park

A new footwear park is planned near the Indian city of Kanpur, close by a proposed mega leather cluster. This new scheme, organised by the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA), is expected to cover just under 53 hectares. It will be home to manufacturers of footwear and related products working in both leather and alternative materials.

The acquisition of 102 hectares for the leather cluster has already been completed, This area is expected to support around 400 industrial units, including tanneries. According to UPSIDA, the proposed footwear park will be strategically located near the leather cluster, in order to ensure ‘seamless integration of manufacturing, tanning, and by-product production’.
