Concerns will still remain about tracing commodities back to the exact plot of land where they were produced.

On 15th April 2025, the European Commission announced measures to simplify the implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The implementation of EUDR has already been postponed by 12 months and is now set to come into force on 30th December 2025.
The new measures should go some way to easing the administrative burdens faced by companies affected by the regulation. Crucially, due diligence statements can now be reused when products are reimported onto the EU market. The statements can also be submitted annually, which is a considerable change from the original requirement to submit a statement for each import or batch of in-scope products placed onto the EU market.
However, while these changes will be welcomed by any organisations importing or trading in the affected commodities, concerns will still remain about the viability of tracing commodities such as leather and natural rubber back to the exact plot of land where the raw materials were produced.
