2026 date for SATRA sustainability course

SATRA’s ‘Introduction to Footwear Sustainability’ course will be held in the UK during 2026. This programme has been created for everyone working for a brand, sourcing company, retailer or manufacturer within the footwear supply chain, and will benefit team members looking to understand the key sustainability challenges facing the industry and how to tackle them. The course will provide an insight into several key aspects of sustainability within the footwear industry:

• what sustainability is and why it is important
• how supply chains operate
• the meaning of an ‘organisational carbon footprint’ and how it is calculated
• what a ‘product lifecycle assessment’ and a ‘carbon footprint’ are, how a study can be conducted, and where the data comes from
• how to understand and reduce environmental impacts throughout the product lifecycle
• a detailed review of the environmental considerations of leather and other bio-based materials
• current obligations under sustainability-related legislation, and what the future holds in this regard
• an introduction to restricted substances management
• the testing and verification of a product’s sustainability credentials.
