Birkenstock Holding is acquiring an existing distributor – Birkenstock Australia – in order to strengthen its position in one of the Germany-based company’s largest Asia-Pacific markets. The agreement reportedly includes all the assets, contracts and around 60 employees in Australia.
Having been founded in the early 1990s, Birkenstock Australia is said to generate annual revenue of USD 57.4 million (GBP 43.7 million). It operates stores in Melbourne and Sydney, as well as having an online presence and a 300-strong network of wholesalers. Birkenstock Australia co-founder Marcel Goerke will continue as managing director during the transition, during which time he will report to Birkenstock Holding chief sales officer Klaus Baumann.
