Adult footwear prices in the USA increased by an average of 4.2 per cent in April compared to the same month in 2025. This was reportedly a bigger jump than in eight of the last nine months and the largest rise in over three-and-a-half years.

According to data from the Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America (FDRA), increasing prices are affecting all key markets, in step with accelerating overall inflation in the country.

Retail prices for women’s footwear in April jumped by 4.5 per cent, which was the ninth straight increase, and the cost of men’s shoes increased by 3.9 per cent. Children’s footwear prices grew by 3.9 per cent – the fastest rise in 35 months. The major cause for these increases is being blamed on US energy costs, which rose by 3.8 per cent during April.

The chief economist at the FDRA has stated that this latest information supports the body’s earlier caution that price pressure would permeate the footwear supply chain to store shelves and into footwear shoppers’ pockets in 2026.
