SATRA department head invited to Downing Street

SATRA’s head of chemistry, Emma Norris, was recently invited by Rosie Wrighting – the Member of Parliament for Kettering – to a reception at 10 Downing Street. The event was organised to celebrate the ‘Women in Tech Taskforce’, in which Emma represented the region as a female leader in the world of technology.

Launched in December 2025, the Taskforce is a national effort designed to help women enter, thrive and lead within the UK’s tech sector. Its declared intention is to support diversity while dismantling barriers to education, training and career progression, so that the UK can truly utilise the expertise available across the country.

This special day began with a tour of Parliament, after which Emma attended a reception that included an address from Liz Kendall, secretary of state for science, innovation and technology, as well as a presentation by social entrepreneur and computer scientist Anne Marie Imafidon.

During the reception, Emma spoke to Liz Kendall about her role at SATRA, in which they discussed the importance of managers and how women can be assisted to enter leadership roles.
