Virgin expedition selects Helly Hansen gear
Footwear, apparel and accessories from Helly Hansen has been chosen for Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Oceanic Expedition. The Virgin founder recently announced that he and his team aim to explore the deepest points in each of the world’s five oceans, beginning with the 10,924 metre deep Mariana Trench off the Pacific island of Guam.
The purpose of this latest voyage is not simply adventure – the expedition aims to provide the scientific community with data to increase its understanding of the oceans, as well as permitting the public to access and share the experience through a variety of media platforms.
Virgin Oceanic is an exciting and demanding project that will put our teams in some of the world’s most extreme environments – above and below the ocean’s surface,” commented Sir Richard. “Extreme environments demand the right gear, and so we’re thrilled to have Helly Hansen as part of the Virgin Oceanic team.”
“Helly Hansen was founded by a sea captain 135 years ago, so the sea is in our blood,” said Erik Burbank, Helly Hansen VP of Global Marketing. “We are personally and professionally inspired by the Virgin Oceanic team, and are both humbled and motivated to be associated with this project.”
