Footwear manufacturer Brown Shoe Company Inc is reported to be selling its men’s basketball brand AND1 to brand management company Galaxy International for $55 million. US-based Brown Shoe acquired the AND1 brand when it purchased American Sporting Goods (ASG) earlier this year for $145 million. This agreement added the Avia, Nevados and Ryka athletic and outdoor brands and widened Brown Shoe's fitness and comfort collections.
“Our goal with the ASG acquisition was to better position Brown Shoe to meet the continued and growing consumer demand for products that support active and healthy lifestyles,” said Diane Sullivan, President and Chief Executive. “AND1 is a great brand with a strong heritage, however, it did not cleanly align with our strategy to focus on the key consumer platforms of healthy living, contemporary fashion and family.”
Brown Shoe has also made four strategic additions to the leadership team within its American Sporting Goods (ASG) Division. James M Hoff has been appointed as Vice President – Sales across all ASG brands, Alan Vickers as Vice President – International, Brad Little as Vice President and Brand Manager for Avia and Nevados, and Jorge Cabrera as Vice President – Athletic Product Development.
