Footwear fair attracts international delegates to São Paulo

If the January 2012 edition of Couromoda – the 39th international shoe, sporting goods and leathergoods fair – is as popular as the event held for 2011, around 89,000 footwear professionals from more than 60 countries will visit the show in São Paulo. Those in attendance can expect to see footwear and accessory offerings from more than 1,000 companies at what is marketed as the largest trade fair for Brazil and the Latin American footwear market. According to the exhibition organisers, the companies that normally participate in the fair produce 90 per cent of Brazilian footwear, which reportedly now exceeds 850 million pairs annually.

The Couromoda show gathers entrepreneurs from the entire Brazilian leather-footwear chain – a sector ranging from tanneries to retail stores, with a current yearly GDP exceeding $30 billion and that generates more than one million direct and indirect jobs. Foreign sales made within the leather-footwear chain currently total approximately $4.3 billion.

Complementing the Couromoda fair, the Brazilian Footwear Congress will be held on 15th January. This event is likely to be attended by more than 600 retailers, manufacturers, footwear supply and accessory producers. It officially opens the Couromoda week and features a number of key issues, including the relationship between retailers and manufacturers.
