Danes find high chromium VI levels in footwear
Random tests performed by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency on a number of shoes sold in Denmark revealed that some contained excessive levels of the highly allergenic chemical chromium VI. As a result of these findings, a warning about Danish shoes was issued within the EU.
One of the samples which released chromium VI was a child’s sandal. Denmark has recently announced its intention to restrict the sale of leather products containing chromium VI. Neighbouring Germany banned the use of this chemical within its leathgergoods industry during 2010.
