LaCrosse lands multi-million dollar military boot deal
The ‘Rugged All-Terrain’ boot will be made in the Danner plant near Portland Airport.
Portland-based LaCrosse Footwear Inc has announced that a $15.4 million order has been placed by the United States Marine Corps (USMC) for Danner’s ‘Rugged All-Terrain’ (RAT) hot-weather boot. It is reportedly the largest military order ever received in the company's history.
The footwear will be produced in the recently opened Danner plant close to Portland International Airport, and LaCrosse officials have confirmed that the RAT order will be filled in multiple deliveries.
Around 40 additional shoemakers will be employed at the Portland plant to fill the USMC order, bringing the workforce in the factory to 240. Another 150 members of staff are based elsewhere in the city, mainly at its headquarters in northeastern Portland.
The largest military contract for LaCrosse footwear to date was placed in November 2009, when the US Army ordered Danner Army Combat Hiker boots worth $9.6 million.
