The Macy’s department store plans to open the largest shoe floor in the world, and intends to offer more than 300,000 pairs of shoes from a 63,000 square foot space in its Herald Square, New York premises.
According to the company, its new facility will include luxury shoe shops and a designer shoe salon. The current department dedicated to women’s footwear is located on two separate floors in the building, with the renovation adding 9,000 square feet of space.
“Macy’s Herald Square is one of the most visited and shopped department stores in New York City, with 20 million visitors each year,” said the company’s Herald Square District Vice President, Patti Lee.
Investment in the redevelopment of Macy’s flagship store – located on West 34th Street – is expected to reach $40 million. Work on the shoe floor will be the first stage in the project, and the company aims to reach 1.2 million square feet of total selling space.
