Footwear, textile and clothing companies in Australia have been encouraged to apply for the next round of government grants to help build a ‘stronger, more resilient’ sector.
The government is to give minimum grants of A$250,000 (US$259,000) in round three of the ‘Textile, Clothing and Footwear Strategic Capability Programme’ (TCF SCP), as long as the funding is matched on a dollar-for-dollar basis by the successful company. The TCF SCP is a five-year, competitive grant programme running until June 2015, which will provide a total of $35 million. It is intended to support large projects that will build innovative capability at the enterprise and workplace level.
“The Strategic Capability Programme is designed to support textile, clothing and footwear manufacturers who have a vision for their industry based on smart ideas, strategic thinking, and technical excellence,” said Kate Lundy, the Minister Assisting for Industry and Innovation. “Despite the challenges facing the sector, efficiency, clever design and vision will pay off in the long term.
