Footwear is the UK’s favourite internet purchase
Many consumers in the United Kingdom are shopping for their footwear online, according to the 2012 ‘WorldPay eCommerce Basket’ study. This research reveals that 40 per cent of UK customers who purchased from web pages last year did so at least four times each month, with 10 per cent of them buying products online ten or more times in an average month. The results indicate that almost 60 per cent of internet consumers in the UK shopped online up to three times per month.
Shoes are reported to have been the most popular item purchased online by Britons during 2011, with 49 per cent of females and 38 per cent of males having bought footwear via the internet.
Results from the eCommerce Basket study suggest that men appeared to be the more online prolific shoppers. Men spend an average of £3,495 ($5,484) across a range of items and services during the year, compared to women who spent £3,120 ($4,895). However, women spent more on fashion and clothing – an average of £315 ($494) – compared to purchases made by men, which averaged £188 ($295).
