Shanghai ACLE show reports positive results
Exhibitors represented practically the entire supply chain of the leather industry.
The All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE), claimed to be the largest leather industry-related exhibition for the Chinese market, was significantly larger than in 2011. A 10 per cent boost in the number of exhibitors saw more than 1,300 companies from 41 countries and regions taking part. These exhibitors represented practically the entire supply chain of the leather industry – from tanners and tanning machinery producers to chemical companies and leather traders.
During the three days of this annual fair, 22,204 visitors attended – an increase of 16.25 per cent compared to last year’s total. Delegates from China numbered 18,699 (20 per cent more than last year), while overseas visitors totalled 3,138 – a rise of 1.7 per cent.
The biggest foreign participation came from Turkey, which had 62 Turkish companies exhibiting at the country’s Leather Brands pavilion. The delegation reported that their stands were busy during the fair, despite the fact that they noted a slight drop in actual visitor numbers enquiring about their products. Delegation Head and Chairman of the Turkish Leather Council, Lemi Tolunay, noted: “Compared with last year, we find that we have less visitors, but the orders are better. We are getting better quality buyers. There are a number of new buyers, but mostly we are serving existing Chinese customers with
bigger orders."
According to Mr Tolunay, Turkish exports of leather and leathergoods in 2011 amounted to $1.5 billion, although exports to China were, by comparison, only $90 million. “This year we are expecting an increase to $130 million,” he commented. The Turkish delegation have already booked an even bigger exhibition space for the 2013 ACLE fair.
