Le Cuir à Paris draws in the crowds
A high proportion of vistors came from outside France.
By the time Le Cuir à Paris – one of the leather industry’s major events – closed its doors on 21st September, it had registered a record number of exhibiting companies and a significant rise in visitors over the corresponding show twelve months before.
More than 400 companies showcased their products and services at this 23rd edition, and did things on a far grander scale, taking up 23 per cent more floor space than in 2011. In total, 14,011 delegates came to see what was new in the world of leather – a rise of 9.8 per cent from the previous year. It is impressive to note that there were substantially more visitors from other countries than previously for this three-day event, emphasising the high regard in which this show is held by the international leatherworking community. France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK were particularly well represented, and there were also increased numbers of delegates from Japan and the USA.
Le Cuir à Paris displayed a wide variety of products aimed at the autumn/winter 2013/14 season. According to the event organisers, calf, lamb and goat skins exhibiting natural irregularity and grain were popular with the buyers and designers attending the show. Other items on display included bullock nubuck, stretch leathers, varnished calfskin and metallic finishes – particularly on goatskin and fish leathers.
In addition to crocodile and other reptiles in the exotics section, there was renewed interest in shagreen, salmon and perch. In terms of colour palettes, reports suggest that particular attention was shown to natural shades, with the most in-demand tones being chocolate, brown, gold and cognac. Pastel shades were also popular, particularly in pink, as well as a variety of blues, such as indigo, navy and petrol.
