SATRA business development in Japan
A report on the recent Tokyo seminars organised by SATRA.
During September, SATRA experts visited Japan to present two events hosted by the British Embassy in Tokyo. The morning session, entitled ‘Ensuring the safety of consumer goods’, was intended for Japanese exporters of general consumer goods. Topics included CE marking of PPE for the European market, REACH and restricted chemicals, and the importance of risk assessment to ensure that products reaching the market are safe and fit for purpose.
The afternoon session – ‘Total footwear quality’ – proved particularly popular. Steve Rose, General Manager of SATRA Technology Services (Dongguan), spoke about how and when footwear should be tested, and the importance of specification. SATRA Divisional Manager Peter Allen then advised on how SATRA test machines can provide manufacturers with testing at source. Finally, John Hubbard (SATRA’s Environment and Sustainability Consultant) reviewed the current SATRA research programme.
Each of the talks was delivered in English with a Japanese translation. Over 50 delegates participated and, after discussion, the conclusion was that SATRA could play a guiding role in helping Japanese companies and brands to meet the legal requirements of important export markets – especially in Europe and the US. The recognition of the SATRA brand throughout Far East supply chains was also considered to be significant.
