Free shoemaking course offered to Marikina residents
Marikina residents can be taught the fundamentals of footwear design and production.
Free training in shoemaking is being offered to residents of the Filipino city of Marikina. Mayor Del de Guzman is encouraging local people to make use of the opportunity, which is part of a series of short livelihood courses offered by the city government through the Marikina Livelihood Training Centre (MLTC).
Although open to residents of any age, this training is particularly aimed at youths living in the city. The course will teach the fundamentals of shoe designing, pattern making, upper making, shoe lasting, sole attaching, finishing and shoe care.
“Through MLTC’s shoemaking course, students with shoemaking skills and creativity can use their talents to start their own shoe businesses in the future,” commented Mr de Guzman, when asked about the benefits of the programme. “This can also further help in revitalising the shoe industry of Marikina.”
