Régence Footwear makes Cambodian investment
Building work has begun on Régence Footwear’s Cambodian factory.
Quebec City-based Régence Footwear is building a new factory in Cambodia – the first in Asia in the Canadian company’s history. The official opening is planned for January, and the company has announced its intention for the new facility to become a SATRA member.
“We had to find a solution to face the manufacturing challenges,” said Christian Bergeron, Régence Footwear’s chief executive. “To own our factory has always been at the heart of our concerns, because it is the best way to ensure our product quality according to our standards, and also to make sure they are delivered on time.”
Having manufactured in Canada for 30 years and also supervised factories in China for the past six years, Mr Bergeron is confident that Régence has the necessary skills and expertise needed to conduct this project.
Setting up the new factory will be extended over a three-year period. This will start in 2013, when a building of 45,000 sq ft housing 500 employees will be opened. In 2015, the project should be completed, by which time Régence aims to employ 1,500 members of staff working in an area of 135,000 sq ft. This facility will be reserved exclusively for the production of Régence goods.
Régence has become a successful manufacturer thanks to the Acton and Blondo brands. The company has also recently acquired the Wilkuro and Belmont safety footwear brands.
