Hurricane Sandy wrought billions of dollars’ worth of damage when it slammed into the Caribbean, the US and Canada in October. Relief organisations and companies took steps to alleviate the suffering of victims who had in many cases lost their homes and all their possessions, These included a number of
footwear manufacturers which took the initiative to provide assistance. The following are just a few examples of how assistance was provided when it was needed.
SKECHERS USA Inc presented $25,000 to the Mayor’s Fund in New York City to support rebuilding efforts. In addition, Olympic silver medal-winning athlete Meb Keflezighi also appeared at a special fundraising event at the SKECHERS Times Square store, where 20 per cent of all sales raised much-needed money for the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund. Five hundred pairs of SKECHERS boots were provided to two relief efforts working in the New York City area, and the company also donated a large number of children’s shoes via its charity footwear line.
Rogers Corporation donated $20,000 to the American Red Cross to support its Hurricane Sandy relief efforts for families affected by the storm. In addition, Rogers matched US employee donations for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
Rocky Brands provided work footwear and clothing for volunteers cleaning up the damage on New York’s Staten Island, NY, left by the storm.
“We knew we had to step up and help,” said David Sharp, Rocky Brands president and chief executive. We were so glad to connect with these incredible people who are working on the ground to clean up and to distribute much-needed items.”
