The use of high visibility materials
Although such materials may be designed into footwear, they require careful use and testing to ascertain their fitness for purpose.
High visibility materials have been incorporated into the design of training shoes and other footwear styles for many years. While footwear in itself cannot provide an adequate main form of high visibility due to its size and location on the wearer’s body, these materials are typically used either as a decorative styling feature with no particular function, or perhaps with the aim of enhancing conspicuity. If intended as the latter, the performance of upper materials that have specific claims of reflectivity or fluorescence can be quantified using well-established garment test methodology.
