Causes of footwear seam failures

Footwear seam failure is one of the major causes of customer returns, as this article highlights.

Generally, seams will fail either because the material has torn – usually at the stitch holes – or because the thread has broken. Poor design is often the cause if seams are placed in vulnerable parts of the upper where the seam will be significantly flexed.
