Chemical Analytical Testing (CAT)
REACH and restricted substances
SATRA can test in accordance with customers’ restricted substances lists for a range of restricted chemicals. We can also test products and materials to determine whether Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) included on the REACH candidate list are present.
Find out more >Chemical permeation
SATRA has extensive testing facilities to determine the resistance to permeation by chemicals of materials used in gloves, footwear and clothing. Testing is carried out in accordance with EN 16523-1 and we have the equipment to test against a very large number of challenge chemicals. We can also test against chemotherapy drugs to ASTM 6978.
Find out more >Discolouration and odour
Finished products or materials which have become discoloured or are odorous can be commercially damaging, and often result in downgraded or returned goods. Although the causes of such problems can be difficult to pinpoint, SATRA’s team is experienced in investigating discolouration and odour including the assessment of odour-absorbing materials to predict performance in final product.
Find out more >PPE chemical innocuousness
As part of the EU-type examination process for PPE, chemical testing must be carried out to confirm whether the materials are innocuous and will not cause harm to the wearer of the PPE. This includes determining pH values on all materials, testing for the restricted substances chromium VI and pentachlorophenol in leathers and relevant substances on REACH annex XVII.
Find out more >Materials for food contact suitability
SATRA’s laboratory can test a range of materials including plastic, ceramic, glass and enamel for overall migration limits against European and some FDA regulations to determine whether products intended for food contact meet the relevant legislation.
Find out more >Bespoke chemical testing
SATRA offers bespoke chemical testing such as the characterisation or comparison of materials, investigative fault finding and chemical testing for the automotive sector.
