10:00 and 16:00 GMT
The Sustainable Leather Foundation (SLF) is an organisation that was formed in early 2020 with the mission of supporting the global leather industry to learn, to improve and to protect for future generations, through the ‘People, Planet, Profit’ principle. Founder and Managing Director, Deborah Taylor, will join SATRA’s sustainability workshop to explain more about the work of SLF and how industry stakeholders can participate. At the heart of the foundation is the integrated SLF Transparency Dashboard, linked to a certification standard that assesses the compliance and performance of leather manufacturers and associated facilities against the three pillars of sustainability within the leather value chain – environmental, social and governance.
There are also a number of Collaboration Hubs focussed on topics including biodegradability, carbon footprint, traceability and transparency, deforestation and biodiversity, facility governance, chemistry, consumer communication and social responsibility. These are open for anyone to participate in whether they are SLF partners or not.
SLF Partners also have access to added-value resources and dedicated support to build programmes for change and improvement that are tailored to an individual facility’s needs.
Deborah has a wealth of industry related experience including five years managing the Leather Working Group, is also a UN/CEFACT consultant, an accredited SA8000 Social Systems Lead Auditor, a Council member of the Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists and is a Practitioner of the Chartered Quality Institute (PCQI). There will be plenty of opportunity to ask Deborah questions.
