EMMA NORRIS provides an insight into the regulations surrounding the presence of phthalate plasticisers in footwear and consumer products – legislation which can be complex and difficult to understand.

Phthalate plasticisers are frequently added to plastics to increase their flexibility. However, some phthalates are described as ‘endocrine disruptors’ and are restricted by legislation.
