SATRA, BFM & NBF announce joint seminar for members

The seminar will outline upcoming changes to Furniture & Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations

SATRA, BFM & NBF are delighted to invite members to a joint industry seminar where industry experts Tristine Hargreaves (SATRA & NBF), Steve Moore (BFM) and Tom Notley (SATRA) will be discussing the anticipated new approach to the Furniture & Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations and the potential changes.

Officials from the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) will be in attendance and will help to explain the current status of the project ahead of consultation, and Trading Standards will also be present.

This event will give members an opportunity to refresh their knowledge on the current regulations, gain an understanding of potential changes to the new regulations and hear from industry experts, giving members an excellent opportunity for networking and discussion to help prepare for the upcoming consultation.

Tristine Hargreaves (SATRA & NBF) - Tristine has worked in the furniture industry for over 27 years with experience in manufacturing, retail, importing, testing, and compliance and is currently Divisional Manager for Furniture and Floor Coverings at SATRA.  Tristine provides technical support to both SATRA and NBF members and is also currently chair of BSI technical committee for ‘Domestic and Contract Furniture’, acting chair of BSI technical committee for ‘Flammability, performance and fire tests for furniture’ and member of BSI, CEN and ISO standards committees for furniture, textiles, and flammability. 

Steve Moore (BFM) - Steve has worked in the furniture industry for over 30 years gaining experience with market leading UK companies in both the domestic and contract furniture markets through a wide range of senior responsibilities including Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials, and Human Resources management. Working with BFM since 2011 he now undertakes a variety of project and consultancy roles as Director of Consultant Services.

Tom Notley (SATRA) - Tom has worked in the testing and quality assurance industry for over 19 years with 17 of those spent primarily in the furniture flammability sector. He currently is the resident furniture flammability expert at SATRA. He uses his wealth of experience of the practicalities of testing, and its application to furniture, mattresses and beds, to help customers achieve their goals of compliance or development of new products and technologies. As part of the BSI technical committee for ‘Flammability, performance and fire tests for furniture’ and as an active member of the UKTLF, he uses his insight to help shape the standards and practices of testing furniture and bedding for the future.
