Information on the latest changes

8th February 2024

Five new substances have been added to the Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern and one substance entry was revised.

On 23rd January 2024, five new substances were added to the Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) and one substance entry was revised. There are now 240 substances on the list.

The latest considerations are listed below. Of the five new additions to the Candidate List, one is toxic for reproduction, three are very persistent and very bioaccumulative (vPvB), and one is both toxic to reproduction and persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic (PBT).

There has also been an update to the hazard profile of dibutyl phthalate to include its endocrine disrupting properties.

Additions to the Candidate List:

2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenol, CAS number 732-26-3, is used in the manufacture of polymers. It is toxic for reproduction, and is persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic (PBT). It is also known to be skin-sensitising.

2-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)phenol, CAS number 3147-75-9, is used in coatings, adhesives, lubricants and greases, polishes, waxes and other cleaning products. It is very persistent and very bioaccumulative (vPvB).

2-(dimethylamino)-2-[(4-methylphenyl)methyl]-1-[4-(morpholin-4-yl)phenyl]butan-1-one, CAS number 119344-86-4, is used in coatings but is toxic for reproduction.

Bumetrizole, CAS number 3896-11-5, is used in coatings, adhesives and cleaning products. It is very persistent and very bioaccumulative (vPvB).

Oligomerisation and alkylation reaction products of 2-phenylpropene and phenol are used in adhesives, coatings and polymers. They are very persistent and very bioaccumulative (vPvB), and are agreed to be skin-sensitising and edocrine-disrupting.

Updated entry:

Dibutyl phthalate, CAS number 84-74-2, is used in cleaning products, laboratory chemicals and polymers. It has endocrine-disrupting properties.
