Test Method: SATRA TM178
Water vapour absorption
June 2001
SCOPE
This method is intended to determine the amount of water vapour a material or an assembly will absorb in a specified time. The method is mainly applicable to leathers and textiles used in footwear uppers and clothing where it gives a measure of the ability to remove perspiration from the surface of the wearer’s skin.
PRINCIPLE
Either a single circular test specimen or an assembly of circular test specimens which is representative of a completed product, is clamped between an impermeable membrane and the open end of a vertical cylindrical chamber containing a specified volume of water. After a set time the mass of water absorbed by the test specimen is measured.
