Test Method: SATRA TM193
Abrasion resistance of leather
June 2004
SCOPE
This method is intended to determine the abrasion resistance of leather. The method is mainly applicable to leather used as footwear soling material but can be used with any type of heavy leather.
PRINCIPLE
A circular test specimen under a constant force is placed in contact with a rotating cylinder covered with a standard abrasive cloth. The test specimen is then moved along the length of the cylinder so that it traverses a helical path in contact with the abrasive. The thickness of leather abraded per thousand revolutions of the cylinder is calculated. The severity of the abradant is verified by abrading a reference material.
