Test Method: SATRA TM234
Relaxation shrinkage and hygral expansion of fabrics
December 2000
SCOPE
This test method is intended to determine the dimensional stability of a fabric by measuring its levels of relaxation shrinkage and hygral expansion. The method is applicable to all fabrics used in garment production.
PRINCIPLE
A test specimen cut from the fabric is dried in an oven and its dry dimensions are measured. The sample is then soaked in water for a defined period and its wet dimensions measured. Finally, the sample is again oven dried and its final dry dimensions are measured. Values for its relaxation shrinkage and hygral expansion are then calculated.
