Test Method: SATRA TM305
Wick test
March 1998
SCOPE
This method is intended to determine the change in appearance of a material when wetted, and the rate at which water is absorbed by the material by wicking. The method is applicable to all water absorbent materials.
PRINCIPLE
A strip of material is suspended vertically, with the lower end immersed in a small quantity of water. At regular intervals, the material is removed from the water and the extent to which the appearance of the test specimen has changed is assessed qualitatively. The rate at which the water has wicked up the test specimen is also determined.
