Acidity - pH value and pH difference figure - of an aqueous extract

SCOPE
This method is intended to determine the acidity of an aqueous extract of a material. The method is applicable to all types of leather, leatherboards, fibreboards and textiles.
PRINCIPLE
Part 1 – pH value: A milled test specimen of known mass is extracted with water for a predetermined time and the pH of the unfiltered extract is measured.
Part 2 – pH difference figure (if required): The extract (Part 1) is filtered, diluted by a factor of 10 and the change in pH from (Part 1) measured.
