Qualitative test for the presence of nickel

SCOPE
This test method is intended to determine whether a material is nickel or nickel plated. The method is applicable to all metal trims and attachments.
PRINCIPLE
An acidic extract of the surface of the metal item is neutralised with ammonia and a solution of dimethylglyoxime is added. The presence of nickel is indicated by the formation of a red colour.
