Extractable chromium in leather

SCOPE
This test method is intended to determine whether a leather contains extractable chromium in quantities which may constitute a toxic hazard. It is applicable to any leather goods intended for use by children, where there is no chance of ingestion.
PRINCIPLE
A sample of the leather is shaken with an artificial saliva solution and the solution analysed for chromium by atomic absorption or other suitable instrumental technique.
